Traditional chinese dinnerware

My spring art show was inspired by a traditional Chinese style dinnerware set. The way I started making my artwork was by making small bowls and plates. I first started by figuring out the size of each bowl and plate for about two classes. The next month of process is making the main centerpiece of the art show. The rest of time was spent figuring out glazing and small details with each piece. In the beginning of the year our class did 3 mini assignments like pedestal lidded forms, surface design, and dinnerware sets. The assignment I struggled on the most was surface design. I knew I wanted to incorporate surface design in the final assignment, Since the Chinese culture is well known for its surface design and small details. Overall I made surface design the main visual for the whole project. The reason why my art show is based on Chinese culture is because I relate to it on a deeper level through my experiences and my heritage. I never get to express my love of my culture, so I thought it would be fun to incorporate my heritage in the art show. In conclusion coming up with the idea of Chinese surface design was a lot of fun to make and it brought my imagination to life.
